Hi... I'm Jo...
... I'm an Integratively-trained Counsellor based near Chester and I'm an experienced counsellor trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviours), Psychodynamic (understanding how past experiences or trauma might shape your present) and a Person-centred approach (a gentle approach with you in control), to find the best therapy mix for your specific needs.
I have experience in working with clients dealing with domestic and sexual abuse (DVA), childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, and those who are struggling with grief after the death of a loved one. I understand how to work with neurodivergence, such as ADHD and autism and I regularly support neurodivergent clients. I also understand the struggles around life changes, such as peri-menopause and menopause, physical illness, financial struggles, and those times we are left feeling vulnerable. Sometimes we just need a place to download.
I offer online and in-person (face-to-face) counselling sessions from my office in between Tarvin and Tarporley, and offer both short- and long-term therapy, with a free first consultation (30 mins). I also offer concessions on a sliding scale where appropriate.

Training, Qualifications & Experience
My background
I currently have a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling (comprising training in Person-centred, CBT and Psychodynamic counselling) and I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I have worked within the NHS and for over seven years (with over 1000 hours of experience), have been seeing clients who have presented with a huge range of issues, from the post-pandemic trauma, childhood trauma, domestic and sexual abuse, stress around the menopause, grief, loss and all kinds of bereavement issues, anxiety, depression, physical illness, as well as relationship concerns. I also have a Diploma in Nutrition for Children and Young people, which many clients have found helpful.
I have done multiple external training around DVA in order to offer a safe space to those affected.

Testimonial
JS, client
“Jo is a fantastic therapist, she brought light to a particularly dark time for me and helped me resolve long standing issues around emotional repression. I went into therapy with very low expectations, expecting it to amount to nothing, Jo was extremely attentive and insightful proving me very very wrong. She listens in a way I had never experienced before, in a way only a professional could."
RS, client
“Jo became a pillar of my wellbeing, an invaluable source of guidance, a touchtree in my navigation through life, from weddings to work life, pregnancy to postpartum, house moves and grief, loss and all the ups and downs. Thank you for helping me return to my truth."
